WEEKENDS AND TRAVEL

During the weekends, volunteers have spare time and usually just relax or take an opportunity  to explore other parts of their local town or nearby town ARUSHA OR MOSHI long weekends can be taken to travel further afield to destinations such as Zanzibar, Dar es salaam , Uganda and Kenya to amble or safari.

From taking a safari through the Serengeti to escaping to the exotic beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania offers something for every travellers taste. We have listed below some of the popular sites and tours that past BTVCL volunteers have experienced while on the BTVCL programs.

 

MAUNT MERU WATERFALL IN ARUSHA

Arusha lies at the fast of Tanzanian’s second highest peak mount Meru offering volunteers short walking adventures into the foot hills to discover on impressive water fall.

 

MASERENA SNAKE PARK

The Maserena snake park provide plenty of opportunities to learn about the most dangerous snakes in the world and the chance to hold a real live snake.( if that takes your fancy) you can also  set your eyes  on some hungry crocodiles at feeding time and pet  a baby croc .phis take a special tour of the Maasai cultural museum with your personal Maasai guide.

LAKE DULUTI

A 30 minutes trip out of MIRERANI will lead you towards the beautiful lake Duluti a popular retreat for volunteers to take time out to go canoeing, fishing, bird watching or exploring the wildlife.

FURTHER AFIELD

While volunteering in Tanzania many volunteers choose to travel further afield together to gain a greater appreciation for the impressive land scape and popular parks outside Mirerani .We have highlighted a couple of popular week end activities, which our local staff can help coordinate when you arrive in Tanzania .

MOUNT KILIMANJARO

Conquer Africa`s highest peaks and the world`s tallest walk able Mountain with an experienced trekking guide At 5985m and over 400m above the surrounding plains, it even possible to see the curvature of the earth . Choose from one of the different routes, setaside six to ten days and prepare yourself for challenging yet hugely rewarding climb.

SAFARI

Take an extended week end safari and join fellow volunteers an forgettable adventure to lake Manyara, Ngorongoro creator and the Serengeti. Leave it to our local staff to coordinate and all inclusive Safaris for you once you arrive in our country.

ZANZIBAR

Boasting Pristine shite beaches , exquisite rain forests and vibrant , coral reefs it’s no wonder Zanzibar has established Itself as one of the most exotic locations on earth with variety of Hotels and hostels to choose from, there are accommodation options to meet any budget, offering a space to stay after a day snorkeling diving or swimming with the dolphins .

There can be 30 to 80 children in each class and volunteers are required to assist the local teacher with daily lessons, providing one –one attention to the student and sometimes relieving the teacher of a class of two per day.

All school in Tanzania run throughout the year and have holidays for the entire months of June and December .The school also take week –long holidays Easter and September.

During school holidays volunteers cane take a break, travel , engage in tourist activities such as Safari, take tutorials for senior students or volunteers at another placement.

Teachers or hose with previous teaching experience can also help provide valuable training for local teachers which will have a lasting impact long after you have completed your placement. The school we work with are also starting to develop their own sustainable project that volunteers can get involved with, ranging from agricultural projects to jewelry making. It is also possible for volunteers to help out with the local community sport program which runs after school from 4pm to 7pm.

As with all volunteers program in Tanzania you will dedicate, 1 day a week to one of our outreach program. This means you will gate to see some of the project such as women groups, orphanages and HIV/AIDS Programs .this means best way for us to make sure that our work is sustainable in the long term.
